Welp. The superbowl definitely happened. Obviously, as the sports guy, I watched every minute of it. As a Broncos fan, I have one word for it: disappointing. Let me explain.
To begin, the game itself was disappointing strictly because the Chiefs won. The actual gameplay was great from start to finish. Both teams played really high level football, exactly what one would want in a super bowl. I just don’t like the team that won because the Chiefs are a division rival.
I was also extremely disappointed in the CBS score bug. CBS released a new digital scoreboard, otherwise known as a score bug, and personally, I am not a fan. It looks too simple and doesn’t really pop the way a score bug should. It just felt extremely simple and looked like it was created using Microsoft paint. Far too plain for the biggest football game of the whole year.
The commercials were disappointing too. There were only a couple of stand out commercials. I especially liked the blue square commercial (for obvious personal reasons), as well as the Dunkin Donuts ad, the Kawasaki ad, and the Google Pixel ad with the blind man. I really liked those four, but other than that, all others were somewhat forgettable. Also, too much Temu. I can’t be the only one who thinks that.
Finally, the halftime show. I kept watching it and all I could think was, “huh?” I mean, I didn’t realize H.E.R, Jermaine Dupri, and even Will.I.Am were there until I looked up who the bald guy in the suit was. The interaction between Usher and Alicia Keys was extremely uncomfortable, but Usher very quickly turned the show around with the use of Lil John and Ludacris in “Yeah”. Overall, I was disappointed with this show for one reason: He didn’t play “DJ got us Fallin in Love Again”, and that made me sad.
Overall, the entire Super Bowl was just kinda, eh. And, honestly, I hope that next year’s Super Bowl grows on it to produce a better overall product that ends with the Broncos hoisting the Lombardi.
