The Oscars is an annual event where Academy Awards are given to many different actors and actresses in different categories. The awards span from best supporting actress to best animated short.
This year, the Oscars were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, and there were many different comedic duos that presented the awards. Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling, Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon and Zendaya presented an award solo, as did comedian John Mulaney.
Like always, the Oscars had multiple musical performances. Both of the performances that were nominated were from the movie Barbie; Billie Eillish sang “What was I made for” and Ryan Gosling performed one of the most popular songs from Barbie, “I’m just Ken”.
There were many, many awards given to talented directors, actors and actresses, and there were some highlights to those awards. Dave Mullens and Brad Booker won best animated short, Zone of Interest won best international feature film, Robert Downy Junior won best supporting actor and Devine Joy Randolph won best supporting actress.
The movie Poor Things won numerous awards from best costume design to best makeup and hairstyling. Oppenheimer, another popular movie from the past summer, was also nominated for many awards, and won 7, one including best picture, the biggest award of the event.
Billie Eillish and her brother Phineas won an award for their song, “What was I made for” from Barbie and Emma Stone won best actress and joked about her dress breaking during the “I’m just Ken” performance. Lastly, Cillian Murphy won best actor, which was his first Oscar.
Josie Hoffman 26’ shares what she thought of the Oscars.
“I think Jimmy Kimmel was a pretty good host and I’m glad some of the movies like Barbie and those kinds of movies won, but I feel like they make the same movies win over and over again and there are just a lot of other amazing movies that didn’t win any awards.” Hoffman said. When asked what her favorite part was, she said, “Definitely the ‘I’m just Ken’ performance by Ryan Gosling, I just thought that was really funny how they put that together.”
Overall, the Oscars this year were filled with awards given to talented people, amusing music performances were put on, and best of all was Ryan Gosling performing in bedazzled pink pants.
