Life 101 is a recurring meeting for seniors hosted by Ms. Selden and Ms. Sladovnik, in which different themes are explored and discussed. All meetings are entirely optional and occur between 6:00-8:00 p.m., but the final one took place on May 14th. Every attendee was included in the planned event, and it had a theme of gratitude and “looking forward” while reminiscing pleasantly on seniors’ years in high school.
One senior who has attended multiple Life 101 meetings, Hazel K. ’24, explains, “Life 101 is a club for seniors to connect with their class before graduation and reflect on the different areas of their lives. One of many reasons I go is to be part of a group who is willing to think about life in its many aspects. I would recommend it to future seniors who are willing to have a growth mindset and learn things from others’ perspectives.”
As the year comes to a close and we wave goodbye to the class of 2024, next year’s seniors are lining up to take over the Life 101 meetings. One such prospective leader is Akhil S. ’25. He elaborates, “There are 8 leaders and 8 weeks within Life 101. Each leader takes on a topic… Ms. Selden and Ms. Sladovnik decide what topics are available, but it becomes about you.” Akhil further details, “It’s unlike any other class offered here at Heritage but it’s not a club, either. It’s a mutual understanding between you and your peers that it’s not you versus them, it’s you and them. It’s more of a collaboration of understanding and knowledge. The problems in life need not be faced alone.”
Life 101 will be starting back up next year; any current juniors who would like to participate should keep an eye out for information once the 2024-2025 school year begins.
