New Hacky Sack Club promotes inclusivity at Heritage

A new hacky sack club is bringing a fun new opportunity to meet people at Heritage. Open to students of all skill levels, the club gives heritage students a chance to try a new sport, meet new people, and take a break from the stress of school.

The club was started by students who wanted a low stakes, easy, and fun club that focuses on community rather than competition or academics. During meetings, members form circles and pass the hacky sack while practicing and doing simple tricks. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, and mistakes are totally allowed, making it easy for anyone to join without feeling nervous or judged.

“I joined because it’s just something cool to do after school,” said Grant McCague `26. “You don’t have to be super athletic. You just show up and play.”

McCague says the club is different from other activities because it feels welcoming and relaxed. “It’s not serious or stressful. Everyone’s just trying to keep it going and have fun,” he said. He also noted that the club makes it easy to talk to new people and build friendships.

Since starting, interest has steadily increased as more students hear about the club. Members say the club helps them relax and connect with people they might not normally talk to during the school day. “It’s just a great time for me and my friends to decompress and hang out after the school day,” says Carter Land ‘26. “I’ve grown closer to so many new people, and there are even folks from other schools.”

The hacky sack club meets in the rock wall Gym every Tuesday right after school and is open to all students. “If you’re even a little curious, just come try it,” McCague adds. “It’s way more fun than it looks.”
