During the first week of school, we had three 911 emergencies in three days. The first incident was one of the students having a seizure, the next was a student being accidentally stabbed in the hand with an X-acto knife, and the final incident was a student falling off their bike.
During the second incident, when the bulk of the emergency vehicles showed up, there was someone parked in the drop off loop and their car got swiped by an ambulance that was rolling up doing minimal damage to the car but shearing a metal fender off of the ambulance. The owner calmly moved their car before talking to one of the paramedics.
When an anonymous witness to all three emergencies was asked about how he felt his response was, “It feels like they didn’t do anything when they got here, they just showed up and left.” While it is true that no one was taken to a hospital during any of these emergencies, paramedics are capable of doing a large variety of things just with the supplies in their vehicles. On the other hand, more than 3 emergency vehicles for nothing more than stitches is a little over the top.
When another witness, Noah Endlich ‘27, was asked how he felt about so many emergencies happening in such a short time he said “I think it helped show a lot of students and staff how important it is to have emergency services and other public resources available” showing advocation for support of public safety and health.
