WSW is back: Welcome to the park, Heritage

Winter Spirit Week has come back to Heritage with the Student Government’s release of its 2024 Winter Spirit Week promo video. The video declared the Jurassic Park theme, assigned dress-up days, and after-school events for this year’s Winter Spirit Week (WSW hereon). It all leads up to the classes uniting for another chaotic pep assembly on February 2nd, where the prom theme and venue will also be announced.

The always vibrant class t-shirts have also been debuted; freshman (spinosauri) will sport neon green, sophomores (pterodactyls) a soft blue, juniors (velociraptors) highlighter yellow, and, for their final pep assembly, seniors (T-Rexes) a bright pink. Shirts will be available for $15 purchase all of spirit week by the main entrance.

Spirit Days begin on Friday, January 26th, with Extreme Heritage Spirit Wear Day, and the classic Tacky Tourist Day will kick off the new week the following Monday. Tuesday will bring a sea of pajamas to the school for “Dino-Snore Day”, and on Wednesday, students will choose a past trend no longer in style to bring back for “Extinction Day”. The final spirit day before the assembly includes a mashup of summer and winter clothing, which StuGo has coined “swinter”. There will be no shortage of creative clothing medleys students will invent this year, and for repeating themes like Tacky Tourist, it will be amusing to see how the ideas differ from past years.

Everyone knows what to expect for pep assembly Friday – class colors. Some will go all out, wearing tutus and bedazzling class shirts, face paint and cowboy hats, and some boys will absolutely demolish class shirts when cutting them up to turn them into muscle tanks. It’s a scene every Heritage student has already experienced during Homecoming Week 2023, and it surely won’t disappoint. Students are already readying themselves for the festivities; Maddie L. ’25 says that in addition to her enthusiasm for the prom preview, she’s excited for the student games during the pep assembly. For juniors like Maddie, often the most exciting part of WSW is the prom preview, but there’s still more to offer for those who aren’t crazy about school dances. Sean S. ‘25 says that for him, he’s looking forward to seeing how people choose to incorporate the Jurassic Park theme, as he notes that he “didn’t expect the student government to do this theme, but it will definitely be unique and stand out from previous years”. Each student is looking forward to the week in their own way, but there’s no doubt that spirits are high.

In the days closer to WSW, students should prepare for advisories to be dedicated to everyone’s favorite – class songs. A complete list of WSW information with the events schedule can be found on the HHS Student Government website, linked below. Have fun, Heritage!
