Medical discovery club begins at Heritage

The Diagnoses Discovery Club started this September. According to founder Amelia D. ’27, “It’s about exploring…health science and the health science field. It’s not specifically for people who want to go into a health science career necessarily, it’s more discovering more about the human body and about biology.”

The club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month after school in Ms. Kelli Glorso-McCabe’s room. Glorso-McCabe is the club sponsor.

Amelia says, “I’ve always had a big passion for biology, the human body system, learning about that kind of thing and I figured that because there’s not many health science clubs right now it would be a good thing to start.”

In club meetings, members examine a case study that includes patient history, symptoms, physical exams, and treatments. Amelia says, “There’s one person who will present a diagnosis and nobody else in the club knows what it is so we have to try to piece the sources together that we have to try and figure out what it is.”

Glorso-McCabe, who sponsors the club says, “They use things like the WebMD symptom checker and all these cool things to figure out what the heck is wrong with the patient.”

The club hopes to expand its activities to include microscope labs and fundraising for future activities. If you are interested in joining, contact Ms. Glorso-McCabe.
