On Friday, December 6, the art show was on display, and awards were given. There was a lot of beautiful art like Andrew S. ’25 who got the best art piece in the Art show award. He thinks he may have gotten it because “It was super detailed and realistic.” Andrew is really proud of his art piece.
His drawing has a lot more than a monkey in a forest. He has a mix of both of his favorite subjects art and animals all in the art piece. His inspiration also comes from that. “I always liked animals and recently the Amazon is being deforested so it is in pain.” Andrew is not interested in a career in art, although he says “I was going to use it as a side gig.”
When looking at the colors you might get to notice the use of red in some branches in the drawing. The red branches are a symbol. “I used red to show the severity of the deforestation, and I used blue to show depression and sadness.”
Andrew faced some challenges while creating his artwork. “It was really hard to draw the monkey, and it was really hard to do it in a time restraint.” This did not stop him from drawing his inspiration.
Mr. Casey Deutsch, Andrew’s AP 2d Art and Design teacher, says “He is really motivated, so he spent a lot of time taking it home and working outside of class. I would estimate somewhere between 30 to 40 hours just on that drawing.” Andrew’s time and work really show in his final piece
Although none of the pieces in the show were named, Andrew says he’d call his piece “Screaming monkey,” because “The monkey is screaming because its home is being destroyed.” If you missed the art show you can still see Andrew’s piece, and others, in the art display by the theatre.
