This year’s Freshmen wins the underclassmen HOCO competition.

This year’s freshmen, class of 2029 destroyed their competition during Homecoming week. They were the only class to sell out of their class shirts, dominate the dress up days and have control over both the class song and Riff-Off. At the end of the week they won the underclassmen award in the assembly. But how did they do it and will they do it again?

Kate Dombrowski ‘28 stated that, “ We kind of knew going in that the freshmen were really loud and crazy.
So it wasn’t too surprising, honestly. “I feel like they had good songs for freshmen because usually freshmen don’t get the best songs. And also they’re just a really, really, really big class. Like they took up into our side of the gym, so that definitely contributes too.” Having a large class, good songs and being extremely excited about the week helped in turn give the Freshman the win during the assembly.

Some freshmen think that this win sets the precedent for future assemblies, Jayna Broer ‘29 about what the future assembly looks like for the class of 2029 she stated that,  “I think because we won the assembly freshman year, we’re gonna like to try really, really hard to beat the incoming freshman.
And we do have, obviously, a big grade and because of how fast we learned the first riff off being freshman, I think our next riffoff by knowing what we’ve already learned will be so much better than before and so good. So, yes, I think we might win.” Overall, this year’s Freshman Class was super excited to bring the competition and is looking forward to continuing to bring it in following years.

The Sophomores better watch out for the Freshman during the Winter Spirit Week assembly. Class of 2029’s enthusiasm and participation has led them to victory.
