Halloween is right around the corner, and stores are starting to put up costumes and decorations. Even though there are so many options, it is still difficult for many to find the right costume for Halloween. Some choose normal clothes, some choose pajamas, and some choose actual costumes, but which one is the best?
Faith Harmann ‘29 says, “Most of my friends are dressing up as lifeguards or movie characters. I am going in pajamas.”
It seems like the fun and charm of Halloween is starting to fizzle out and is becoming more of a time to hang out with friends. Colorful and eye-catching costumes are becoming less common for teens as PJs and more basic clothing are rising in the ranks.
“It’s cold, people want to stay warm, so they choose simpler, easier costumes that you can put a jacket over, versus a crazy thing you can wear in the daytime, you can’t wear in the nighttime. It’s more about the candy than the costumes.” Tyler Brown ‘28
One of the major downsides to Halloween is the freezing temperatures. Most people are deterred from fun and cool costumes because of the cold and end up having to put layers on or over them to stay warm.
“I’m going to dress up as a skater, mostly because I don’t have anything else to dress up as, says Connor Netherton ‘28
Another common factor in Halloween costumes becoming more basic is the decrease in options that people are interested in. Most people and teens nowadays don’t care so much about wearing a costume but are more interested in being comfortable and looking good.
What makes up most of Halloween? Is it the costumes, candy, parties? When it comes to costumes, Heritage students are allowed to wear them to school as long as they follow the dress code. There are so many different types of costumes that all contribute to Halloween in their own way. Costumes allow people to express themselves in the ways that they want and show their love for their interests and favorite things.
