As an exchange student from France, watching the SuperBowl for the first time was a completely new and exciting experience for me. Where I live and in Europe in general, American football is not popular at all. Everyone knows about it but no one plays or watches it. It’s considered part of the American dream. So coming here was a shock, seeing football everywhere, always on the TV. But I really enjoyed it, it’s definitely a big part of my experience. I never had the opportunity to see a game in real life, but I spent a lot of time supporting my news favorites teams every week. And I was really sad when the Bills and the Broncos lost in the playoffs.
But overall watching the SuperBowl for the first time was so amazing. Even if I found the game a little boring, compared to what I’m used to, I still had such a great time. What I was looking forward to the most was the half-time, Bad Bunny is one of my favorite artists. And we heard so much about it with all the drama about the fact that he’s not from America even though he’s from Puerto Rico which is a part of America. So I was even more excited. That was also my first time watching a half-time show but I loved it. Everything about it was amazing, the music, the costume, the scene but also the message he conveyed.
I learned as well that the SuperBowl was not all about the Game, the ads are also a big part, which was really surprising at first. However I found them funny and entertaining.
As I already mentioned, football in France is not popular, but I saw that the NFL are planning on playing in Paris next season at the Stade De France. I think that it’s a great idea, it will help introduce this sport in Europe and maybe help it become more popular.
That’s definitely one of the American traditions that I will take back to France with me. I would love to introduce my friends to it and watch it with them next year.
