Heritage has long been known for its many student-led clubs and organizations. One of the newer editions this year, originally called Craft Club before its purpose was changed to help serve others, is an art-based club focused on helping others in an unusual way.
Craft-a-Difference Club was created to make crafts that support a cause. During their first meeting, the club made pink lollipop ‘ghosts’ for patients with breast cancer.
The club helps to get students involved at Heritage . Celine Garcia ‘29 said “I am hoping to support anyone who needs a reminder of the people that care about them in difficult times.”
Sam Burger ‘28, the club’s president, said “I’m very passionate that art is very good for all ages of people so if we like make all these crafts with love as high schoolers, the love will be just as felt for the elderly, the sick, the poor, the rich and for the whoever. I just want to spread love.”
Garcia, looking forward to getting involved, said “To me, activism means standing up for what you believe in and taking action to help others.”
The club proves that helping communities is as easy as making art, but the question remains as to how much of a difference it can create. “I think the club can make a difference by giving people something thoughtful and personal that reminds them that they are cared about,” says Garcia.
While it might not be entirely realistic to say that crafts can save the world, they can still show kindness to others in communities and make small but meaningful changes in the lives of those who need it.
For those who want to join, Craft-a-Difference Club is held every Tuesday after school until 4:15 in room 3139.
