Starting Monday, September 15th, Homecoming week brings an exciting time for students to showcase their school spirit. This year’s theme is Vegas and with that comes a variety of new games put on by student government. New to the dance this year is blackjack, roulette, craps, and Mario Kart in the parking lot. “I’m excited for blackjack. I love blackjack,” says Malakai Johnson ‘26.
In showing their spirit, students are encouraged to dress up with the theme; Monday students wear USA gear: red, white, and blue, Tuesday is beach wear, Wednesday is hybrid: dressy on the top, casual on bottom, Thursday is 80’s theme, and Friday students wear their class shirts. Class shirts can be purchased with a ticket for $30 or $25 for seniors or shirts can be purchased on their own for $15.
The first event of the week is Powderpuff on Monday, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Centennial Stadium, tickets are $5. Students are encouraged to wear colors corresponding to their grade to earn spirit points. Freshman wear white, Sophomores wear grey, Juniors wear blue, and Seniors wear red. Next up is Ruff N Tuff volleyball on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the HHS main gym. Tickets are again $5 and students are again encouraged to match with their peers, this time wearing their class color. On Thursday the football team will take on Mesa Ridge at 6pm at LPS Stadium, Spirit award winners will be announced during halftime. Finally, the pep assembly will be during the day on Friday in the main gym. “I’m for sure looking forward to the assembly, it’s a unique experience that most high schoolers don’t get to know and I genuinely appreciate the type of environment that we’ve made here,” says Jarek Talbert ‘27. Capping off homecoming week, the dance will take place on Friday, September 19th from 7:30 to 10:30 in the student center and patio. Zoey Shutlz 27’ says, “I’m looking forward to the dance because I get to see all my friends.”
