Today, on January 20, 2026, the Heritage High School math department will meet with Littleton Public Schools to review SAT scores. Recent data show that the class of 2026’s SAT scores declined in math, prompting the math department to investigate.

“The math department is going to be having a meeting with district people and dig into our data from previous years and talk about, like, what they did well in and what they struggled with?“ Heritage math teacher Mrs. Dritz provided as a response to the comments.

Heritage ranks 39th among Colorado schools for SAT scores, with an average score of 1040. So why did the scores drop? Teachers, students, and staff will learn upon the conclusion of this meeting. Ideas have floated around about what could happen as a result, but nothing is for sure.

The data points that people at Heritage are some of the smartest people in Colorado public high schools, So who’s at fault? Some say the blame lies with the math department, but the blame lies with the system. The system at Heritage is designed to help, grow, and educate.

“I don’t feel like it was the math department, they could have taught us more pratices question, and given us more time than just some classes,” says Rebecca Rudolph ’26.

Last year, the teacher prepared students for the SAT 2 weeks before the test. That is designed to redecuate, but it is not the right learning style, which is why the LPS and the HHS mathematics department are rethinking how they teach the SAT in the classroom.
