Most, if not all, students here at Heritage High School experienced there being an inaccessibility to specific searches within the first week of school. There was a large filtering error that occurred with Lightspeed Filter Agent resulting in everything being blocked before anyone could take a look at the links or options given based on their search.

Ms. Anna Stiles, Heritage IT professional, recounts what happened: “I was actually informed by students and I had placed a help ticket for the district to be aware. It was LPS district-wide, and other techs were having the same issue, and that made our Google administration aware.” We had also gotten the perspective of the situation from student Emily Golden ‘29. Golden remembers her experience with the Lightspeed issue as, “Lightspeed automatically took me to the first link without letting me look at all the links”, which simply caused frustration felt since nothing bad was researched the majority of the time.

The school’s technician and a fellow student of Heritage High School were both impacted by such a short inconvenience in their own ways; with Stiles students were asking her for help and what to do about the issue and Golden with being unable to have searched up anything before Lightspeed quickly blocked the first blocked website it found. Though roughly 2 days after the problem had been detected and sent to the district, an update was sent to all school issued chromebooks to fix the issue with lightspeed so it would run and function as normal. Now that it’s been fixed it’s a mere inconvenience that LPS districts experienced just within the first week of school starting.
