Kendrick Lamar is a very well known name in the music industry, he has over 20+ platinum status singles, many prestigious awards, and, as of February 1, 2026, 27 Grammy Awards! As of right now, Kendrick Lamar is the most decorated rapper, surpassing Jay-Z with 25 Grammy Awards. 

Kendrick has a long history of Grammy Awards, His first Grammy nomination was in 2014, for his album good kid, m.A.A.d city. The album received 7 nominations but won none. Kendrick swept the 2016 Grammys, with his album To Pimp a Butterfly. That year kendrick earned seven nominations for the album, as well as four additional nominations for other collaboration that year, receiving eleven total nominations, the most any rapper has received in one night. His next album DAMN. won Kendirck another five awards, as well as a Pulitzer prize for music, being the first non jazz, or classical music project to win this prize. Five years later, Kendrick returned with Mr.Moral & The Big Steppers, which won him another three awards. After a few years, Kendrick returns to the Grammys, with his most infamous night. In 2025, Kednrick took the Grammys by storm, After a fierce rap beef with fellow artist Drake, his hit single diss track “Not Like Us” won all five nominations, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video. Finally after the most recent 2026 Grammys, Kendrick won another five awards, summing up to 27 total Grammys, and many other prestigious awards.

Kendrick Lamar’s name is very well know in media, it is not surprising that many Heritage teachers and student know about him, and his music. Social studies teacher, Kristin Brethaur-McClurg, says “I personally am a fan of Kendrick Lamar, so I think his 27 grammys is  deserved. I can appreciate the work and poetry that goes into his music. I also admire his views on society, and culture.” Similarly, Miles Pechan ‘27 thinks “Kendrick’s music is more than just lyrics, His music has so much hidden meanings, it completely changes the way you hear the song.”

Without a doubt, Kendrick Lamar is one of the biggest and most influential names in not just rap, but all of music.
