After being postponed, the HHS community showed up and showed out at winter spirit week last week. Freshman and seniors sold out their shirts and juniors were close. The theme was Top Gun this year; freshmen were Hangman, Sophomores were Goose, Juniors were Pheonix, and seniors were Maverick.
At the assembly there was a series of events that included the class song, Belles dancing, the dance off, the obstacle course, cheer performance, and people from each winter sport and club getting a shout out. Zane Gamber ‘29 says, “The assemblies are fun. My favorite event is when all the lights go off and we sing songs and dance.” Since he is a freshman this was only his second one after the homecoming one.
This year, the sophomore won the obstacle course, with Parker Terch ‘28 being the finisher and diving through the ring at the end. Terch said, “These assemblies are probably my favorite part of school. This was the first time I got to do the obstacle course, but for the last 2 years I’ve done the mattress slide. I got to be the finisher this year for the obstacle course which is both scary because you could mess up for your team but also it’s awesome because winning and getting to jump through the hoop is awesome.”
The class song was a tie for the upperclassmen so since the seniors had the higher score going into the class song they ended up winning the whole thing. For the underclassmen the Freshman won the class song but the sophomores still had more points total so ended up taking home the win.
Over the course of spirit week lots of school spirit was shown through each day especially when it came to buying the class shirt and raising money for the school. Throughout spirit week the sophomores gained more spirit points than the freshman for dress up days and same for the seniors to the juniors which is ultimately why both of them came up victorious at the end.
