With the end of the school year just around the corner, the last of high school sports are finishing. Once again this year, both boys and girls lacrosse made the 5A CHSAA playoffs. In the first round, both teams faced Poudre School District (PSD) on Wednesday, May 6. With Littleton receiving around 7 inches of snow and Fort Collins taking on 5 inches, this caused power outages and dangerous conditions, leading to both schools calling a snow day. Due to these cancellations, both games were pushed back to Thursday, May 7.

Heritage’s boys’ team was ranked to play away against PSD at 3 p.m. Thursday; however, they still ran into weather issues. “It was rough after being super prepared for the game on Wednesday, then to get delayed and then another mid-game delay; it made us extra tired and sore,” says Mo Thenell ‘26. With the Eagles taking home an unfortunate loss of six to nine, Thenell keeps positive thoughts for next season with their new coach. “I think now that our new coach understands the team and its environment, they’ll be a lot better. Our underclassmen have a lot to offer as well.”

The girls’ team started off the playoffs higher with the third seed and a home field advantage. However, they did also face the challenge of weather. Emmi Kaiser ‘26 says, “With round one getting delayed to Thursday, we had a very short recovery time before our game Saturday morning.” Although they had challenges, they crushed PSD nineteen to six Thursday night before having to play Saturday morning again against Kent Denver. With the first half ending in an eight-to-one loss, Kaiser says she’s glad the team is able to stay positive and come back and score six in the second half. While they still took home an unfortunate loss of seven to 11, they don’t regret the season they played. The boys’ team finishes with ten wins and six losses, and the girls finish with fifteen wins and two losses.
