Heritage clubs begin again

As the 2021-22 school year takes off, clubs are beginning once more. There are a variety of ways students can get involved, and club members and sponsors alike are ready to get back to exploring their interests through the many clubs offered at Heritage.

Botany Club, which meets Mondays after school, is one way students can get involved.

“There are a lot of different people,” says Kinsey H. ’22, a member of Botany Club. “Mostly it’s groups of friends that just want to plant stuff together, so it’s really inclusive.”

“My favorite part is just watching things grow,” Kinsey continues. “Usually 70% of what you plant just dies after it becomes a seedling, so anything at the end is just amazing.”

Lachlan M. ’23, president of Rock Climbing Club, is excited to share his love for rock climbing with Heritage.

“My favorite part about rock climbing in general is it’s not just a physical exercise,” Lachlan says. “It’s you against the wall and it’s a skill you have to learn.”

Rock Climbing Club has just begun its first year as an official club. Mrs. Gudewicz and Ms. Idar are the club’s sponsors.

According to Lachlan, Rock Climbing Club aims to improve students’ rock climbing skills and provide an opportunity to connect with new people.

“The environment is just a chill, relaxed place for people to hang out and climb walls,” Lachlan explains.
Knitting Club also provides a welcoming atmosphere for students to relax in.

“Knitting Club is really to just unwind and relax and get your craft on,” says Mrs. Cantwell, teacher sponsor for the club. “People don’t just have to knit; they can crochet or embroider, they can come check out what everyone else is doing, they can learn from others.”

This year, Knitting Club is hoping to find more ways to give back to the community, explains Amber M. ’22.

“We are hoping to increase community outreach by aiding different organizations that take knitted donations, and by also increasing our presence in the HHS community,” Amber states.

Students looking for more information about clubs should visit the clubs and activities page on the Heritage main website.

“Students should absolutely consider being as involved in Heritage as possible,” encourages Amber. “The best way to make new connections or boost your college applications is to try out and join different clubs.”
