Twenty years ago, an iconic, pretty-in-pink movie came out. The original Mean Girls came out in 2004, and when I watched it for the first time, I loved it. I thought it was amazing, and really captured the drama and competition that can happen between girls.  I must say, before seeing the new movie in theaters, I was hearing from other people that it was not fetch at all. But after watching the movie, I did really enjoy it. I didn’t really know how to feel about this movie being a musical, but I think that the entire cast had amazing voices and did very well.

Since the original Mean Girls was a comedy, so was this movie, and it was fun to hear other people in the theater laughing too. I also noticed that this movie felt very extra. The outfits, Halloween costumes, the makeup and the lighting were all over the top. Another thing I knew before going into the movie was that Janice Ian is the actress who played Moana, and her voice was phenomenal. I think the casting directors did a great job, especially with the infamous Regina George, played by Renee Rapp, who has an absolutely amazing voice. Karen Smith, played by Avantika Vandanapu, was so funny and was a perfect fit for playing Karen. But out of them all, Damion is my favorite character. The actor Jaquel Spivey was so so good at portraying Damion and hit all of the iconic lines with just a little more drama. Honestly, my favorite part of the movie was seeing Renee Rapp sing. Her voice… gave me chills. She is so talented not only as a singer but as an actress. I’m so impressed with how she was able to be as snappy as Regina George but also portray her confidence.

An interesting part of the movie is how it really fits in with this day in age. Instead of the school spreading rumors about people, they used social media. Going into this movie, I did have other opinions of the movie still in my head, but I’m glad to say that this movie was really enjoyable and that it was really fun to watch. Now the only thing we have to remember is that on Wednesdays we wear pink.
