This March, the Heritage High School theater department put on their spring musical “The Music Man”. Auditions were right before winter break in late December, and rehearsals started immediately after the break in January. Over 2 months of work was put into this spectacular production; every single cast and crew member put their very best effort into making “The Music Man ” an entertaining show.

The week of the show, the weather started to turn. Every news outlet and every weather app was predicting a terrible snow storm that was to set in on opening night. The chatter of this storm swarmed the school and everyone was talking about it. “Are we going to get a snow day?” “Yeah I sure hope so!” was just one of the many conversations staff and students alike were having. Almost everyone was hoping for this snow day, except the theater department.

That fateful Wednesday afternoon came where everyone was wondering what was going to happen. And then, the words everyone in “The Music Man” were dreading were said. The snow day was going to happen. Eleana Draijer ‘25 who has been working on costumes for the show said, “I was worried. I didn’t know what was going to happen.” At rehearsal that day, Mr. Kelley let everyone know he was devastated, but they still had two more days of shows. The loss of opening night was a punch to the heart after all this hard work.

Thursday afternoon comes and some unfortunate news arrives. It is a double snow day which could mean Friday’s show would also be canceled. Draijer says she was “really scared because if [she] lost Friday too, there would only be one day of shows.” Everyone was shocked and confused on if it was going to happen. An announcement was made, and they were going to try their best to perform the show. But, the school’s power was out and that meant there wasn’t a 100% guarantee the show would go on. Everyone would know by 10:30 am Friday morning if there was going to be a show.

The following morning, everyone was anticipating the announcement about Friday’s show. This was the moment everyone had been waiting for 8 weeks for. At 10:20 am that morning, the best news was given. The show was on!

Friday night and both shows on Saturday were packed. Everyone gave it their all every single performance. Although they lost a show, they still gave an incredible performance and brought “The Music Man” to life!
