Every year, Heritage’s art department puts on two art shows, one for the fall semester and one for the spring. Ms. Jessica Key and Mr. Casey Deutsch (Mr. D) organize the entire event. Students from all grades, both inside and outside of art classes, are encouraged to submit artwork for the art show. However, there are some specific criteria both teachers utilize to determine what art will go on display.
“I try to choose art that uses very thoughtful and creative uses of skills and techniques,” Deutsch explains.
Key adds that student pride is also a factor in what art is chosen for the show. “We choose the art that students are proud of whether the art was made in or outside of class.”
Students, staff and family members are invited to view the art and support those who have art in the show. It’s an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the talent of Heritage students.
For Key, her favorite part of organizing the art show is “being able to see our community come together and celebrate the hard work that students have produced throughout the year.”
Deutsch expresses a similar sentiment. “We always hear from staff how incredible and talented our students are and it feels good to be able to showcase that in a public setting.”
The spring art show is up this week! Students are free to browse during the school day as long as they remain respectful of the art and are encouraged to vote for their favorite pieces using the QR codes posted around the area. A reception and prize announcement will be held this Friday after school from 4-6 p.m.
