On April 29, Heritage hosted its Military Signing Day, celebrating seniors who have committed to serving in the military. This year, Heritage recognized Ivon Nevarez, Parker Haworth, Robert Gordon, and Cassy Bliss.  Family members, staff, classmates, and community supporters gathered to honor the students and recognize the dedication and sacrifice that comes with choosing to serve their country after graduation.

Assistant principal Kim Chipman shares, “I think it’s important to recognize students planning to go into the military after high school because they are answering to a higher calling, and I think when you are committing to do something beyond yourself, it speaks a lot to a student’s character; especially since one of our pillars at Heritage is character. I think students that take this opportunity to continue to grow their leadership skills and character are incredibly special and we should celebrate them.”

Military signing day provided a public stage for students to announce their future plans, mirroring the recognition typically reserved for collegiate athletic commitments. The ceremony showcased the discipline and courage necessary for a military career, while offering a moment for peers and faculty to voice their appreciation for the seniors’ dedication to service.

Robert Gordon ‘26 shares why he picked the military and who influenced his decisions, saying, “I picked the army because my dad encouraged me to serve others and help people, and specifically because I liked the vehicles more. I just thought it would be really cool.” He adds, “I would like to thank my dad, my sister and my mom.”

As the ceremony concluded, it underscored the significant responsibilities these students will embrace following graduation. Heritage’s Military Signing Day honored more than just their future plans; it recognized the leadership, sacrifice, and character demonstrated by their decision to serve. Supported by family, friends, and staff, the seniors were commended for choosing a path defined by selflessness and a commitment to making a difference.
